I have been cursing myself over and over again this last week for my idiotic faith in the ability of the local road workers to finish projects quickly. This spring the city decided that the road in front of my place needed some serious help. I happen to agree, so no complaints there, even though it has made access to my driveway a bit hairy the last few months, and promises to continue to do so for several more months.
Had I been paying a bit more attention, I might have moved my car to a better location when I noticed them coming close. However, it turns out that while I was busy with school and soccer practice last week, construction advanced itself right into my driveway, effectively restricting any access with a car. This isn't too much of a problem in the normal course of the day. I ride my bike everywhere unless leaving town, and since I leave through the back, I didn't even notice the blockage till I tried to pull out last Friday on my way to a blind date and realized I wouldn't make it (darn!).
I naively assumed that these people would realize the problems this posed, and try to make it quick. It has been a week now (thank heavens I don't usually have emergencies) and I am starting to realize that I might just be spending my last free weekend stuck at home instead of driving up to Pocatello to do some back to school shopping and visit with the family for the holiday. Not that I have a problem with staying home as such, but I do like to visit my family once in a while, and this is likely to be the last time I will be able to visit for a couple months what with work and soccer games. To top it all off, my sister has the same nice long weekend off, and we were planning to get in some good hiking/playing. Curses!
